Biodiesel Articles - What is Biodiesel?

With rising gas prices there has been a revolution in the industry to find alternative solutions. People want something that is better than fuel oil. They want something safer and cleaner. They also want something that will not cost so much.

There have been a range of alternative fuel sources introduced and some have taken off rather well. Biodiesel is one such fuel alternative that offers a great alternative to high priced diesel fuel.

It's Different

One of the things that make biodiesel so different from the other alternatives out there is that you do not have to go out and buy a new vehicle or even do a thing to your current vehicle to use biodiesel. If you run off diesel fuel now then you can use biodiesel.

It is very different from regular diesel fuel, but in good ways. It works like diesel fuel which is why you can use it in your engine just as you would regular diesel. However, biodiesel is cleaner burner and cleaner on your engine, so less wear and tear and less pollution. It also is safer with less chance of explosion or fire.

Blended

Most of the biodiesel sold today on the market is a blended version. Biodiesel and regular diesel are mixed at various levels. This is done because pure biodiesel does not work well with traditional rubber parts in vehicles. Hoses and other rubber parts wear down over time with biodiesel use. Mixing biodiesel and regular diesel helps to avoid this common issue.

B100, which is pure biodiesel, can still be found. For those who have upgraded their fuel system to not include rubber parts will get the best benefit form using pure biodiesel. However, a mixed biodiesel is still better than straight diesel fuel and can be used in any diesel vehicle safely.

Diesel Alternative

There are many myths about biodiesel that cause some people to think they should not use it. The issue of biodiesel breaking down rubber parts is not really that huge of a deal. Replacing those rubber parts is less of an expense and hassle in the long run than all the trouble from using regular diesel. Biodiesel is much cleaner and so general wear and tear is greatly reduced. That means less service and maintenance to your vehicle.

It is things like that which has kept biodiesel from really exploding, but people are starting to realize that biodiesel is just a better choice overall. Despite the rumors and adverse talk, biodiesel has proven itself as the diesel fuel alternative.
